KNOW WHERE YOUR CHARITABLE DOLLARS GO
Investigative Reporter Céline McArthur, of Wink News recently covered a story about Hurricane Ian Benefit Concert at Hertz Arena set for Thursday, September 21, 2023. Slated to perform to support the victims of Hurricane Ian were Christian artists MercyMe and Matthew West. The concert was sponsored by a group titled “Disaster Relief Foundation”.
Ms. McArthur uncovered that the Disaster Relief Foundation is not a registered charity or nonprofit organization. Her findings lead to an exclusive three-part WINK News Report, prompting Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit to investigate. US Congressman Byron Donalds, representing Florida’s District 19, also is taking interest in this case. As the “heat” was turned up, the concert was postponed but the investigation continues.
The anniversary of Hurricane Ian brought numerous reports of individuals or groups claiming to be a charity or associated with one. Charity fraud involves deceptive business practices of accepting monies without using the funds for the intended purpose(s) and/or soliciting funds under false pretenses of need.

As John Bunyan stated, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you”.

Making a difference starts at home. By donating to a local charity, you are boosting our economy. The monies you donate locally have a direct impact on those around you. Investing your charitable dollars locally is important in making your community a better place for everyone; but, as evident with the above example, you must do your research.
Oh wait! We have done that for you. Spring Run Charitable Foundation (SRCF) thoroughly researches the recipients of your generous donations and will continue to vet local charities that request our assistance. When you invest in SRCF
you will feel more connected to the donation you make. In addition, you may be able to find ways to donate your time and talents to the foundation assisting SRCF Board of Directors with their annual activities and community needs such as helping members and employees when disasters like Hurricane Ian affects us.
