LAUGH, SMILE AND LIVE
It is said, “There are some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger and live much better. Ron Giaconia, Luke Cunningham and John McDermott laughed, loved to smile and lived. Humble men of dignity and grace, they set examples for all by being good mentors and now legends.
Known to many as the “Chairman of the Board”, Ron Giaconia was a big sports enthusiast. This family man was one of the original advocates of bringing bocce to Spring Run and was always ready for a game. Ron lived for a competitive round of golf, so it was no surprise when he got involved with the SRCF Golf Outing. The Foundation Golf Outing’s 144 plus participants have enjoyed a delicious lunch paid for by Ron and his wife Toni. This season will be no exception, so let’s remember to raise a glass to Ron as we enjoy a fabulous lunch compliments of the Chairman of the Board and his lovely bride.
How can any Whisper Creek resident forget that warm
smile when they opened their front door to see Luke with raffle tickets. In thirty seconds, a check was in his hand, and he didn’t have to say one word to close the sale. No emails or sitting behind a sales table at the club, he did it the “old fashion way”, canvasing Creek Branch Lane just so he could visit the neighbors he loved. Jack Chadwick, president of Spring Run Charitable Foundation, and Luke served as owners’ representatives for the 2012 clubhouse renovation. Their effective team dynamics led to Luke’s appointment to the SRCF’s Board of Directors. For twelve years Luke served on the board, wearing many hats. A mentor to board members, volunteers and donors he was a catalyst for unleashing our empathetic nature to assist others.
Marianne and John McDermott won the $10,000.00 SRCF raffle drawing twice. From winning to volunteering, John’s service mindset came forth and he found his niche in the foundation. Each season John utilized his accounting and finance skills in the administration of the SRCF raffle tickets sales. A gracious, gentle, unassuming man who rarely spoke about his love of painting but beamed when Augusta National Golf Club was mentioned. Playing Augusta with his nephew and staying in one the cabins on the course completed John’s ‘bucket list”.
Farewell Ron, Luke and John. We will miss your laughter, smiles and examples on how to live each day to the fullest. Your life with us will always be remembered as perfect gentlemen to Spring Run.
